The course is based on complete works (in English translation) by four representative German authors of the first half of the century. Although dealing with works of great popular appeal (Demian, Death in Venice, The Metamorphosis, Mother Courage, Galileo, and others), the emphasis of the course will be on improving writing skills, i.e. on perfecting each student's individual style. There will be regular private conferences to discuss the papers.
