A long, vertical tube contains water whose level can be varied. A tuning fork of frequency 440 Hz is struck, so that it vibrates, and is held over the top of the tube. The water level is lowered until a resonance is heard.The level is then lowered further until the next resonance is heard. The difference betwen the two levels is measured as 40 cm.
