A uniform 10 m string, of mass 250 g, is attached at its upper end and has a mass of 100 kg suspended from its lower end. The lower end of the string is suddenly displaced horizontally. How long does it take the wave pulse which is produced to travel to the upper end?

(Use g = 10 m/s2 and, for this particular case, you should note that the influence of the weight of the string, 250 g, is negligible in comparison with that of the hanging mass, 100 kg. Would this still be true if the hanging mass were 250 g?)
