Welcome

This is the central repository of information on the research of (Associate Professor) and (Ph.D. student), Department of Statistical Science, Cornell University, on the statistical problem of estimating the number of classes (taxa, species) in a population. The main resources are a bibliography with over 800 references on the subject, and a collection of computer code (software) that allows the applied scientist to carry out the statistical analyses described here. We also discuss various applications of these analyses in various fields, especially biology, and current and proposed directions for statistical research on the "species problem." This problem is also known as estimating the number of species, species richness, diversity, or biodiversity. These resources are continually updated, and are available free of charge to the scientific community.
