Rediscovery of the nine-spotted ladybug, Coccinella novemnotata

In October 2006 Jilene (age 11) and Jonathan (age 10) Penhale along with their parents and Leslie and Jeff Perlman (parents of Jordan Perlman, a 1st year student in the Entomology Department at Cornell University) collected a nine-spotted ladybug near their home in Arlington Virginia. This discovery, the first sighting of a nine-spotted ladybug in the eastern U.S. in over 14 years proved the species is not extinct and provided extremely valuable information.
