Lectures: MW 2:55-4:10 PM (Upson Hall 102).
Discussions (TBD)
Lecture
notes will be made available via the course website.
There are no required texts. Some good and
relevant texts are:
(1) Quantum Optics by
Girish S. Agarwal
(2) Quantum Optics
by D. F. Walls and G. J. Milburn
(3) Electromagnetic Noise and Quantum
Optical Measurements by Hermann A. Haus
(4) Quantum Optics
by M. Scully and S. Zuberi
There will be a midterm exam and a final exam. Both exams will be take-home.
About 50% homework, 25%
midterm, and 25% final exam.
(a) A course in electrodynamics or optics (ECE3030,
or AEP 3560, or equivalent)
(b) a course in quantum mechanics (ECE 4060, or AEP 3620,
or PHY
4443, or equivalent).
These are strong prereqs. Students not meeting
any one of these prereqs should not take this course
