Objective: "If facts are the seeds that later produce knowledge and wisdom, then the emotions and the impressions of the senses are the fertile soil in which the seeds must grow". (Rachel Carson from "The Sense of Wonder")

The purpose of this project is to critically reflect on the differing perspectives offered through the two different seasonal hiking experiences.
Description: This assignment is structured in four parts, with three parts utilizing the same structure as the reading analyses. For each hike;

1) Summarize the experience (in your own words)
2) Criticize (effectiveness, points of agreement and contention)
3) Synthesize (affect on you personally and professionally).

Consider what new knowledge was gained, what new methodologies were observed, what new experiences were had, and what new sensitivities were demonstrated.

Finally, for the fourth part of the assignment, contrast and compare the two experiences. If you missed a hike, write about the walks you did participate in.
Material: eco-friendly print media.

Deadline: beginning of class, Thursday May 2, 2002.

Grading: Research (hikes): 3/10 Form: 1/10 Content: 6/10
