Current lab members

Daniel Barbash, Associate Professor

Dan graduated from MIT with a BS in Biology and from UC Berkeley with a PhD in Genetics.

Shuqing Ji, Research Support Specialist

Shuqing graduated from Northeast Normal University, China with a BS in Biology and from Glasgow University, Scotland with an MS in Molecular Biology and Genetics. She is interested in understanding questions in Genetics and Evolution of Drosophila, in particular, the experimental approaches to address these questions.

P. Satyaki, Graduate Student

Field of Biochemistry, Molecular & Cell Biology

Satyaki came to Cornell, from India, after obtaining  a B.S from Osmania University and an M.S from the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research. He is interested in heterochromatin and in understanding how rapidly changing composition of heterochromatin DNA effects constituent heterochromatin proteins.

Kevin Wei, Graduate Student

Field of Genetics, Genomics and Development

Kevin graduate from McGill University (Montreal, Quebec) with a Bachelor of Arts and Science. He is interested in gene regulation in both interspecific and intraspecific Drosophila hybrids, variation in heterochromatin, and dosage compensation.

Tawny Cukykendall, Graduate Student

Field of Genetics, Genomics and Development

Tawny graduated with a B.S. in Biology from the University of Iowa.  She is interested in identifying additional genes involved in F1 hybrid male lethality between D. melanogaster and D. simulans.  She is also investigating the functional divergence of the hybrid incompatibility gene, Hybrid male rescue (Hmr).

Dan Zinshteyn, Graduate Student

Field of Genetics, Genomics and Development

Dan graduated with a B.A. in Biology from the University of Pennsylvania. He is interested in the evolution and function of genes involved in germline stem cell maintenance in the Drosophila ovary.
