Assignment #2: Working drawings, Rand Hall renovation for A.D.A. Compliance
Issued: 14 September 1999
Due dates:
  • 9/21/99 "cartoon" layout of entire project, 8-1/2" x 11" sheets; careful measurements of existing conditions (may be done in teams)
  • 9/28/99 research: accessible toilet rooms; layout at scale of 1/4"=1'-0"
  • 10/5/99 research: hydraulic elevator; layout plan and section at 1/4"=1'-0"; sketch details
  • 10/12/99 no class
  • 10/19/99 preliminary drawings due (1st draft); pin-up
  • 10/26/99 final drawings due

Background: A Feasibility Analysis for the renovation of Rand Hall was prepared by Einhorn Yaffee Prescott Architecture & Engineering, P.C. in 1993. Some of the recommendations in this report, dealing with A.D.A. compliance, may be implemented in the near future.

Prepare working drawings for a new elevator and accessible toilet rooms as shown schematically on the attached plan. Do 3rd floor part [partial] plan only, but include a section at the elevator through the entire building. Other required drawings are 3rd floor demolition plan (unless combined with floor plan), 3rd floor reflected ceiling plan, toilet room elevations, and misc. details to better explain your intentions. Do not renovate "print room."

Format: work on 11" x 17" sheets (for ease of photocopying), if possible.

Assignment
No. 3
Assignment #3 (final project): Working drawings, your design
Issued: 26 October 1999
Due dates:
  • 11/2/99 bring in schematic design; turn in "cartoon" layout of entire project, 8-1/2" x 11" sheets;
  • 11/9/99 research #1: select one aspect of your project that requires research; prepare drawings indicating solution to this aspect of your project (e.g., bathrooms, elevators, stairs, curtain wall, etc.)
  • 11/16/99 research #2: select another aspect of your project that requires research; prepare drawings indicating solution to this aspect of your project. Note: no class 11/16/99; turn in assignment in my mailbox.
  • 11/23/99 preliminary drawings #1 due (1st draft; can be incomplete, but should outline entire scope of project); pin-up
  • 11/30/99 preliminary drawings #2 due (2nd draft); pin-up
  • 12/10/99 final drawings due, 3:00 pm, my office (Rand 121)

Prepare working drawings for project you have previously designed (schematically). Include "title page," perhaps with site information, legend, etc.; also basic plans, elevations, sections, and selected details. Optional drawings include schedules, wall types, etc. The set of drawings does not need to be complete, but it should be consistent, and clearly organized.

Format: work on 11" x 17" sheets (for ease of photocopying), if possible. If larger formats are used, you are responsible for bringing copies to class for preliminary reviews and final submission. Plan on submitting approximately 6 11" x 17" sheets (including title sheet).
