Assignment #1: Focus on dimensioning, lettering, line weight
Issued: 27 January 2004
Due: 03 February 2004
On one or two sheets of 11" x 17" paper, create a partial working drawing for the renovation of room 125 Rand Hall. The room is to become compliant with ADA standards for accessibility. Use all new fixtures and accessories, assuming that new plumbing work and connections (not part of your drawings) can be accommodated below the existing slab-on-grade.
Include floor plan and 2 section/elevations (scale: 1/2" = 1'-0"). Show existing, removed, and proposed construction.
Drawing should have title block (your name, course information, project name, date, etc.); key to symbols or marks used; dimensions; and notes. In your design and in your dimensioning strategy, pay particular attention to alignments and other intended relationships.
Refer to ADA texts on reserve and online references for rules about accessibility. Survey the existing conditions (this part can be done in teams, if desired), noting all existing dimensions of partitions, fixtures, structure, etc. Don't forget to measure vertical elements as well (suspended ceiling, etc.). Use this "as-built" documentation as a basis for your design.
