Chiang Mai Structures Workshop |
||
Following are some images from my workshop experience in Chiang Mai, Thailand, as a Fulbright Senior Specialist: I conducted a 2-week workshop at the Faculty of Architecture, Chiang Mai University, during August 2001 on the general subject of structural design in architecture. Specifically, the workshop presented strategies for manipulating structural form to create rational, yet visually exciting, structures. ![]() This is me explaining material prepared in advance on the web, and therefore available to students at all times . Using a series of procedures ("rules") based on the laws of statics, teams of architecture students each created long-span structural forms, some of which are shown below.
I was also able to see many of the temple complexes - wats - in and around Chiang Mai, and did some sketching in my free time (see image below). Thanks especially to Sombat Thiratrakoolchai, Peerapong Duangrat and the architecture students at Chiang Mai University. | ||
