ARCH 463: Special Topics in Structures: The Tectonic Articulation of Structure

Pre-req.: ARCH 262, ARCH 263, ARCH 264, ARCH 363 or equivalent courses in structures and technology, or permission of instructor

Description
Through a series of readings, exercises and case studies, students will investigate ways in which structural forces can be expressed in works of architecture. Both the structural basis of form as well as the formal articulation of structure will be considered.

Objectives

  1. Gain insight into the behavior of structure;
  2. Investigate the cultural meaning of structure and technology;
  3. Explore the interaction of structure and form.
