Assignment #2 Due: 10/04/04 (with preliminary sketches due 9/27/04) Design a 15-foot high steel column to be inserted into a new opening in a masonry facade of a building of your choice. The column can include standard sections, or be completely fabricated from steel plates, rods, etc. The column can also include cast sections. Assume that a 12"-deep steel beam is placed directly over the column to transfer all gravity loads to the column and adjacent masonry (or hidden steel) structure at each side of the opening.
Requirements: For 9/27/04 class: submit elevations and other sketches, as necessary, to describe column idea.
For 10/04/04 class: submit final drawings (as above) and model.
