Concepts and procedures for the design of individual structural components (e.g., columns, beams, tension elements) in steel, concrete, and timber construction.

Course requirements:
Homework assignments (20% grade)
Prelims, one each for tension elements, columns, and reinforced concrete beams (50% grade)
Final exam covering all material, including wood and steel beams (30% grade)

Attendance:
Per university policy, all students are expected to be present throughout the semester at all class meetings, except when absent because of the students' religious belief, or because of other circumstances beyond the students' control (such as illness, or family emergencies). Upon documentation of such circumstances, any missed examinations will be rescheduled, and any late assignments will be accepted without penalty, as described below.
Late assignments:
Assignments are due on the date specified, during class. Except as explained under "Attendance" above, no late assignments will be accepted. Students meeting the requirements for submitting a late assignment will be given a make-up assignment to complete.
Academic integrity:
Each student in this course is expected to abide by the Cornell University Code of Academic Integrity. Any work submitted by a student in this course for academic credit will be the student's own work. In general, students may discuss concepts, facts, and methods among themselves. Students may NOT, however, collaborate in the specific preparation of assignments or the execution of exams.
