ARCH 262: Building Technology, Materials & Methods
Assign #5: Curtain walls

assigned: Nov. 9, 1998
due: Nov. 16, 1998

On one sheet of 8-1/2" x 11" paper, combine the curtain wall details in Brand, pp.126-129, and draw a single detailed wall section through a typical floor and roof. Use same scale (3"=1'-0", or 1/4 full size).

Carefully label all construction items, as in Brand.

Notes:

  1. The floor detail on pp. 128-129 is cut through the vertical mullion; your detailed section should be cut through the glass, as in the parapet detail.
  2. Add in a schematic representation of a low-profile fan coil (heating, cooling) unit below the "vision panel" (transparent glass lite) on the typical floor. See Architectural Graphic Standards for details.
  3. Use spandrel glass to hide the structure of the roof and floor.
  4. Include the suspended ceiling under the roof and floor slabs.
  5. Large scale mullion/rail details from Brand and Allen are attached for reference only. Note that the detail in Allen does not indicate venting and pressure equalization.
