In-class wood-frame demo, Fall 2006 (Part I)
A fragment of a two-story wood-frame structure with a steep-slope roof is designed to be sub-divided into eleven component parts (see top-left image). All 2x4, 2x6, and plywood elements are cut ahead of time and brought to class. Students divide into eleven teams and begin nailing together the wall and floor elements. The entire framing is complete in about one hour. Later in the term, the structure will be used to demonstrate roofing and drywall.
